Submission Beauty x Marco Castro x Campillo SS25

On a gloomy Saturday morning in New York, Submission partnered with one of our favorite local makeup artists, the stellar Peruvian-born Marco Castro, adding a little shine behind the scenes at Mexican designer Patricio Campillo’s debut on the NYFW calendar. The collection, aimed to encapsulate the calmness before the eruption of a volcano, was perfectly complemented by Castro’s subtle hand, adding a touch of ‘sweat and pressed-in heat’ to model’s faces.

“During my conversations with Patricio, the Creative Director of Campillo, I learned about his experiences during meditation near the Popocatépetl volcano in Mexico, his daily commute in Mexico City, and Temazcal rituals. My goal was to recapture those feelings and experiences, the sensation of emerging from a Temazcal - a mental and spiritual purification experience, feeling like a volcano erupting within our body while the body adjusts to normal temperatures, resulting in a light sweat on the nose and forehead, and gleaming skin. What I find most inspiring about this show is Campillo's authenticity and his ability to transform his Mexican upbringing into something sophisticated and fresh while avoiding cliches, which is rare in the fashion industry.”

Campillo, a semi-finalist for the 2024 LVMH Prize and relative newcomer in the fashion world is rooted in it’s Mexican heritage with a focus on sustainable practices. The brand has lately been making quiet eruptions in the land of fashion, blurring gender lines, celebrating diversity in casting and opting for a variety of responsible and planet-friendly production practices, of perfectly mirroring the ethos of Submission Beauty.
