Jezz Hill and the Art of Seeing, Differently
Engaging with Argentinian-born makeup artist Jezz Hill’s work can be like entering a dream with your eyes wide open. She approaches her craft similar to a movie director; charging colors, texture and shadows with feeling, less worried about trends and fads.
In Hill’s world, beauty is less about decoration and more a way of noticing and paying attention to what’s alive in front of you, to catch the moment before it disappears. Below, Hill gives us an insight into how she builds the world she wants to see

Please introduce yourself, where are you from and where are you currently?
l was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I moved to NY 11 years ago and have lived here since then.
What is your first memory of makeup?
My mom's blue eyeliner and hot pink lipstick. The scent of my grandma's makeup products.
Describe your work / style in one word
Cinematic. I like my work to feel like a scene you want to step into, something you don't just look at, but experience.
What was your last spark of inspiration?
I can't say for sure. Inspiration doesn't always announce itself, sometimes it just appears out of nowhere and you have to catch it before it's gone.
My muses are anyone unafraid to be seen exactly as they are. And the world around me - whether it's something monumental like the best movie I've ever seen or something small, like an eyelash someone lost on the street.
Your work has a synergy of glamour and intensity while at the same time feeling soft, surreal and dreamlike; do you find yourself world building in your work? If so, what does that world look like?
Yes, always. I love worlds where glamour and emotion coexist, shaped by the tension between perfection and vulnerability.
Who or what are your muses?
My muses are anyone unafraid to be seen exactly as they are. And the world around me - whether it's something monumental like the best movie I've ever seen or something small, like an eyelash someone lost on the street.
The best part of being an artist is being a vessel for ideas, bringing them to life. There's something truly magical about watching imagination turn into reality.
Beauty keeps shifting, reinventing itself through culture, technology, and individuality. And that unpredictability is what inspires me.
Aside from your work, what role does beauty play or serve you in your own life?
Beauty, to me, is a way of seeing. Outside of my professional work, beauty keeps me connected to creativity. Sometimes that means drawing and sometimes it’s just people-watching. I think beauty teaches you to notice - and noticing is where artistry begins.
Beauty is often a powerful tool of expression for one's identity, how do you approach this when working with individuals? What about with yourself?
It really depends on what type of project I'm working on. Sometimes it is about understanding what people feel more comfortable with and feel like themselves. Sometimes it is creating characters and taking them out of their comfort zone. I think it's important as a makeup artist to be able to do both things very well and be versatile.
For me personally, it's about feeling good in my own skin when I go out into the world.
What do you see the future of beauty being/where do you see the future of beauty going?
I truly don't know, and that's what I love about it. Beauty keeps shifting, reinventing itself through culture, technology, and individuality. And that unpredictability is what inspires me.
