Our glass containers are capped with tin rather than plastic, and we have eliminated the industry-standard polyethylene (PE) plastic liner. Plastic liners can take up to 300 years to break down, contaminating soil and marine wildlife in the meantime. Our caps are designed to have a sustainable life cycle, as tin can be melted down and reused without its properties being compromised—even the “greenest” plastic, on the other hand, can only be recycled 2-3 times before it loses its quality.

Glass derived from natural silicon compounds essentially lasts forever, and can be recycled indefinitely without compromising its quality. It is also free of toxins and has low reactivity with chemicals, meaning it is unlikely to become toxic over time.

Our shipping boxes and tissue wrapping paper are made from 100% recycled and recyclable material. The shipping labels contain no plastic coating, and can be recycled with the box. The tape features a renewable and biodegradable plant-derived adhesive and backing, and can also be recycled with the box.

A notecard is included with every shipment—these cards are made of Clay Coated Newsback (CCNB), 100% recycled and recyclable paper coated in Kaolin clay. Unlike most paper stock, CCNB is unbleached, and is FSC-certified.

Our webshop customers are presented with an opt-out “CO₂ button” at checkout. This button adds a small percentage to your total that goes towards causes coordinated by Atmosfair and Fair Climate Fund, and is intended to offset the impact of your purchase on the environment. These causes currently focus on renewable energy and emissions reduction, and are nearly all certified with the stringent CDM Gold Standard. By leaving the CO₂ button checked, you are helping us do our part to ensure that all Submission purchases are carbon neutral.
