Colors of the Wild

An artist after our own heart; LA-via-Japan makeup artist Anna Kato draws inspiration from the variety and interesting combinations of colors and textures found in nature. Creatures like fish, birds and plants often form the foundation when Kato lets her brushes run wild and for this story below, beetles take center stage…

The metallic and shiny textures in this piece were heavily inspired by bugs. The challenge was to keep it “natural” and not overdo it – in order to appreciate the model’s natural skin and the human aspect of everything

Wild nature inspired me for this shoot. Especially beetles, they surprised me with their incredible colors, beautiful shiny texture

I like to work with this team because they are willing to embrace every definition of beauty and are not limited to the “standard.” 

I felt comfortable letting my strength and identity be recognized as beauty with this team.
